Clarence Gagnon was a French Canadian painter, engraver and illustrator from the province of Qubec. Although he trained and maintained a studio in Paris for much of his career, he never lost his love of the Laurentians and regions of eastern Qubec, which inspired many of his paintings. Gagnon was a full member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (1922) and he thumb printed the back of his canvases to ensure against forgeries.
